San Juan Capistrano real estate carries with it a rich sense of history and nostalgia for its early roots. This community has strong influences from the Native American and Spanish settlers that set up villages in the area over 200 years ago. The city was officially incorporated in 1961, and has shown tremendous growth over the last three decades. In 1974, the population was estimated at approximately 10,000 residents, and in 2004 that number jumped to roughly 35,000 residents. San Juan Capistrano has managed to hold onto a great deal of its open space, with roughly 40 percent of the city being open to parkland and nature preserves.

San Juan Capistrano is ideally located midway between Los Angeles and San Diego, and it is only minutes from the coast. Nearby communities include Laguna Niguel and Dana Point. The Mission of San Juan Capistrano is known as the "Jewel of the Missions," and it is indeed one of the most beautiful sites in southern California. There are also many equestrian trails and stables in San Juan Capistrano, which is why many avid horseback riders are drawn to this city. San Capistrano is considered horse country, as there are many stables in the area with professional trainers. If you have a horse or just like to ride a horse, San Capistrano is the place to go for an equestrian outing. The San Juan Capistrano real estate market is somewhat more diverse than some of its coastal neighbors, and homes in the area are more moderately priced.

Residents enjoy the Farmer's Market that is held every Wednesday at the corners of Yorba and Camino Capistrano Streets. Over 30 vendors sell the most fragrant flowers, ripe fruit, and organic vegetables around. There are also many interesting shops, cafes, and restaurants in the downtown area. If you love antiques, you will likely find some treasures along Antique Row. There are also some educational museums in the area, such as the Nautical Heritage Museum and the Ocean Institute. The public schools fall under the Capistrano Unified School District, and there are also some excellent private schools in the area as well.
